Time To Register For The 2010 Weet-Bix Tryathlon Series

Kiwi kids (aged 7 to 15 years) are encouraged to grab their sport shoes and buckle on their bike helmets because the 2010 Weet-Bix Tryathlon series is now open for entry.

The 2010 Series will be coming to 12 towns across the country starting off at with the Manukau event on 9 December 2009 and concluding with the New Plymouth event on 31 March 2010 (see www.weetbix.co.nz for further details).

Weet-Bix Product Manager, Claire Richardson, says kids of all sporting abilities should have a go at the Weet-Bix Tryathlon.

“We’re encouraging all Kiwi kids, parents, family members and friends to join together and support each other in training for the 2010 Weet-Bix Tryathlon,” says Miss Richardson.

“The event is a great opportunity for kids to work towards a personal goal and enjoy a nationwide sporting event in a safe, positive and supportive environment.”

“The Weet-Bix Tryathlon also gives kids the chance be inspired and cheered on by some of New Zealand’s greatest sporting stars.”

The 2009 Weet-Bix Tryathlon series proved to be hugely popular, breaking the World Record for the largest children’s sporting event as certified by the International Triathlon Union.

“The event continues to grow in popularity each year as more and more kids take interest in having a go at a Tryathlon,” says Miss Richardson.
“We found the 2009 Series to be so popular with kids that many of the events sold out weeks in advance.

“This year we would encourage parents and schools to register children as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.”

Kids can participate in the Weet-Bix Tryathlon as individuals, or in a tag-team of two or three, and families are encouraged to cheer them on from the sidelines.

Every child who registers for the event receives a race-pack including a Weet-Bix Tryathlon race T-shirt, swim cap for all swimmers, and an official race number and, of course, receive the famous Weet-Bix Tryathlon medal on completing the event.

To encourage kids from all over New Zealand to get involved in the Weet-Bix Tryathlon, Weet-Bix has set up the Weet-Bix Tryathlon Foundation. Teachers and community leaders can apply for support from the Foundation in assisting kids to enter the event.

Funding towards the Weet-Bix Tryathlon entry fee, as well as support for necessary equipment to complete the event (eg sport shoes) can be requested through the Foundation.
