New photo contest aims for youth view on city

A new photographic contest has been launched aiming to get the teenage view of life in Wellington City.

The competition, called Youthspective, is run by Wellington City Council. It’s open to people aged between 10-18 years old living in Wellington City.

There are two sections – one for people aged 10–14 years, and another for those aged between 15–18 years. The winner of each section wins a Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZR1 Digital Camera, 8Gb memory card and camera case and a $50 photo supply voucher.

The winning photos will be displayed on the Council’s website, and people visiting the site will vote for their favourite photo in the People's Choice Award. The winner of this award will receive a Lomography SuperSampler Camera and a $50 photo supply voucher.

The photos will also be displayed at Wellington City libraries and on our website.. Some competition photos will become part of the Council’s stock photo library.

The panel of judges includes Mark Round, Illustrations Editor at The Dominion Post. They will judge entries for quality, creativity and how the image captures a unique perspective on Wellington City.

Free photography tips and technical know-how are available at a photography workshop held at 1–2pm Saturday 13 February at the Wellington Central Library, and is open to all young people aged between 10–18. Those attending can register for the competition and receive a free photo print voucher.
