Unanimous Support For
Get It On! Big Gay Out

High ranking politicians from across the political spectrum will show their support for the rainbow communities and HIV prevention initiatives at Auckland’s premier gay event.
The Get it On! Big Gay Out is sponsored by Durex and will take place on Valentine’s Day, Sunday, 14 February 2010.

The Prime Minister John Key and Labour Party Leader Phil Goff have confirmed that their presence at this year’s event along with National MPs Georgina te Heuheu, Nikki Kaye and Pansy Wong, and Labour MPs Chris Carter, Charles Chauvel, Grant Robinson and Maryan Street. The Mayor of Auckland, John Banks, will also be attending and will officially participate in the launch of the Aroha festival from the stage at the Get it On! Big Gay Out.

This will be the eleventh Big Gay Out. Blending a celebration of diversity with safe sex messages is central to the Get it On! Big Gay Out. Get it On! spokesperson Matt Creamer says “the Get it On! Big Gay Out regularly attracts around 10,000 people to a highly anticipated gay festival. This means that around 10,000 people will also hear the call to action to use condoms and lube, and to support those they care about to do the same. The Get it On! Big Gay Out is chance to celebrate all those people who Get it On!

The 2010 Get it On! Big Gay Out features Annie C (Annie Crummer) who will perform tracks from her new album and there will be a selection of premium bands, comedy, solo artists and dance performances. Last year’s scorching summer weather was offset by one of the Big Gay Out’s favourite attractions; the Slip‘n’Slide which will return along with the popular members of the New Zealand Fire Service who hosed it down. Other attractions will include the George FM dance tent, complete with elegant chandeliers, carpets and inviting beats.

A market area will host a range of locally produced and specialty products, and provide information from community organisations and political groups. The Caluzzi and Urge Beer Garden, a fabulously popular attraction at the 2009 event, will return with increased capacity and shade-covered seating.

To enable people to arrive to in air-conditioned, sequined comfort without the hassle of finding a car park Civic Video and PBC Party Bus have sponsored a free bus. The PBC Party Bus will do a continual loop from Ponsonby Rd to Coyle Park and back again every 30 minutes from 11.00am to 8.00pm.

The Get it On! Big Gay Out will run from midday to 7.00pm on Sunday, 14 February 2010 at Coyle Park, Pt Chevalier Road, Pt Chevalier, Auckland. Entry is by gold coin donation, the proceeds of which benefit HIV prevention initiatives.
