Royal Easter Show 2010

Royal Easter Show 2010 – A&P Entries Close 26 February

Breeders have until 26 February to enter this year’s Royal Easter Show A&P competitions on in Auckland from 1-5 April.

Spread over five days, the livestock displays and competitions will include dairy and beef cattle, sheep, donkey, rabbit, goat, poultry, alpaca and pig sections, with junior cattle and pet lamb sections for kids.

Royal Easter Show Coordinator Gaylene Ashton says changes to this year’s schedule will see breed classes spread over several days in response to visitor requests to see more breeds represented each day.

Building on last year’s improvements, livestock competitions will once again take over the largest and newest pavilion that will also house Farm World, with new interactive activities for young ones like learning how to milk a cow and make butter, proper cow sheds, bee keepers and fleece spinning.

On from 1-5 April at the ASB Showgrounds, Greenlane, the 167th Royal Easter Show is one of New Zealand’s favourite family events.

A new addition this year is Sheep N Show, a shearing show with a difference. Blending sheep, shearing and humour, Sheep N Show’s Greg Clarke will have you in fits of laughter in this entertaining and informative show for all ages.

Top shearers from around New Zealand will again compete for top titles over two days in the Royal Easter Show Shears.

Horses make their entrance with the Rough Riders Equestrian Stunt Team, an action-packed half hour of breath-taking stunts performed at high speed in the main arena.

While at neighbouring Alexandra Park, the Royal Easter Show equestrian competition runs for an extra day, with four days of breeds ranging from Arabian to Shetland Ponies and Miniature horses and new sections for standardbreds and show riding horses. A cute Clydesdale foal show will also feature in the main show grounds on the Friday.

There’s more thunderous fun in the arena with the Hauraki Battle of the Bushmen, in which highly skilled competitors from Canada and New Zealand will battle it out in a Northern vs Southern logger sports challenge with everything from chainsaw racing to hot saws to tree felling.

And for an extra dose of action, two of the world’s top tree climbers will blow you away climbing 60-foot poles with a free fall decent that will leave your hair standing on end.

The famous Royal Easter Show Art Awards, New Zealand’s largest art show, features hundreds of artworks from throughout New Zealand and on sale for the duration of the show. Other features of the Art Pavilion include the working artist displays, face painting by award winning Carmel McCormick and hands-on art activities for the kids.

Also back by popular demand are the Royal Easter Cat Show and Chelsea and Her Star Dogs. And entertaining young ones and the young at heart are never before seen in New Zealand shows BEN 10 and Yo Gabba Gabba!, direct from the Cartoon Network and Nickelodeon, and the super-charged carnival and street entertainers.

Entries for livestock and equestrian events close Friday 26 February. For more information, entry forms and schedules go to www.royaleastershow.co.nz , phone 09 623 7697 or email Gaylene@asbshowgrounds.co.nz
