Soul Bar & Bistro Countdown To The Bluffies

26 February 2010

Soul Bar & Bistro Countdown To The Bluffies
Soul Bar & Bistro’s Bluff Oyster Day –Tuesday, 2 March

In less than five days Auckland’s Soul Bar & Bistro will eagerly welcome the arrival of 1000 highly anticipated Bluff oysters in preparation for the annual Soul Bluff Oyster Day on Tuesday, 2 March.

The Bluff oyster season officially opens on Monday, 1 March, and Soul Bar & Bistro will be the very first North Island restaurant shucking the delicacy’s open. To officiate, New Zealand’s champion oyster opener, Bluff’s very own Keith Lovett, will be providing both the Bluffies and entertainment live from the terrace.

With a menu inspired by tradition, head chef Gareth Stewart says “why try to fix something that isn’t broken? Expect classic, gentle preparation techniques that simply enhance the sweet Bluffie, with a Soul flavour of course!”
The indulgent six course lunch will kick off with freshly shucked Bluff oysters and a glass of Deutz Prestige Cuvee on arrival. Stewart will then present Bluffies served crispy; chowda’d; and encased within pastry respectively, before closing the oyster extravaganza with more of the freshly shucked variety - promising something for all oyster lovers.

Soul Bar & Bistro’s Judith Tabron says “being so far away from the Bluff shouldn’t mean that we North Islanders miss out on the magic of a Bluffie at its freshest”. She adds, “working with my head chef we have created a bespoke menu that will respect the simple indulgence of Bluffies whilst providing guests with some more creative preparations of the delecacy which make the Bluffies a Soul institution”.

It is this simple method that has resulted in a sell out Soul Bar & Bistro Bluff Oyster Day annually, and with just 250 seats available, the team expects nothing less for 2010.
