Feathers, Fur And Fun At Pet Fashion Parade

Media release: 7 April 2010

Feathers, Fur And Fun At Pet Fashion Parade

Now in its eleventh year, the annual Animates Pet Fashion Parade returns to stores nationwide, with pets and owners alike encouraged to get dressed up and strut the catwalk.

“We love organising the Pet Fashion Parades,” says Animates marketing manager, Brenda Caseley. “It’s a great fun, social event for the whole family, including those covered in fur or feathers. Each year, entrants seem to get more and more creative, which is great to see, with a diverse range of outfits, animals and ages on stage. It’s the perfect school holiday activity, both for spectators and those taking part.”

“This year we will again have the two categories, Best Dressed and the popular Best Look-a-like Pet and Owner. It gives everyone a chance to use his or her imagination and bond with their pet at the same time.”

The Animates Pet Fashion Parades will be held in selected stores in Auckland, Tauranga, Hamilton, Palmerston North, Wellington and Christchurch, on Wednesday 14 April, from 11am.

Prizes will be awarded on the day, with local icons including Alix Bushnell (Britta McMann from Go Girls), Matt Minto (Dr. Isaac Worthington from Shortland Street) and Serena Rongonui (What Now presenter) among those taking part in the day’s events in the different regions. Alix and Matt will be at the Albany store for the morning, with Serena awarding prizes at the Tower Junction store in Christchurch.

Animates will also host a fashion show to highlight the season’s latest pet fashion in between the parade categories.

All pets are welcome to take part in the fashion show, says Brenda Caseley. “It’s not just a ‘catwalk’ – dogs are still the most popular animal to be represented, but we have also seen rabbits and a turtle in the parade before. It’s fantastic to see all the different pets up there, bringing smiles to everyone’s faces and winning some great prizes.”

Pet owners are asked to register before the day, with registration forms available in-store. Entry is free.
