Fiji On A Shoestring
HOT Travel Tips

Recently claims have been made about the cost of travel in Fiji. Fresh concerns have been raised around hefty pricing for tourists and the increased cost of goods over popular travel periods.
“Our customers are heading to Fiji, in fact year on year we’re seeing an increase in Fiji travel – this year our bookings are up 16% on the same period in 2009. After last year’s recession, people are concerned about keeping costs down, especially for families with children,” says Brent Thomas, House of Travel Retail Director.

“Travelling to Fiji doesn’t need to be expensive,” continues Thomas.

House of Travel, New Zealand’s leading travel specialist, has some great ideas on how you can best enjoy New Zealand’s favourite island escape...without breaking the bank.

Take snacks
• Biscuits, water and muesli bars are perfect travel options. Take as much food as your baggage allowance will allow and simply declare any food items upon entry.

Look for other food options outside of your resort
• Local supermarkets provide a cheaper way to buy and mean you can sample some of the local island produce – Fijian Paw Paw is delicious!

Plan for your vacation in advance
• Your travel consultant can work with you to ensure that you get the best rates on hotels and flights.

Stay in a vacation rental
• If you want to look outside of a resort, holiday homes are a great alternative and perfect for large groups and families. It can not only work out cheaper but also mean you have more room.
