Amcal And Unichem Launches National Make Up Amnesty

New Zealand women are being urged to surrender their used, unfashionable and even expired make-up, in exchange for new make-up from pharmacies in September.

The make-up amnesty allows customers to swap like for like products – a lipstick for a lipstick – for new Revlon make-up, at participating Amcal and Unichem pharmacies at twenty percent off.

It comes after a national survey of 100 Kiwi women, conducted by the pharmacy chains earlier this year, found all 100 women eager to update their image with new make-up, despite the majority citing a lack of time to learn about new ways to apply cosmetics.

Dayrel Richardson, Marketing Manager of Amcal and Unichem Pharmacies, says while cost is a factor which prevents women from updating their make-up bags, the research revealed a general lack of confidence and time to learn the latest make-up trends and application know-how.

“There is an overwhelming majority of women in New Zealand who feel stuck in a rut with their make-up. We are appealing for them to come into our pharmacies next month, and receive customised and professional make-up advice they won’t find anywhere else.

“This amnesty invites women to bring in their old make-up they no longer use, so our experts will show which new make-up will suit them, learn about current make-up trends, and tips and tricks on how to apply it, and then exchange their old for new, and they’ll qualify for the discount too,” says Dayrel.

She says the survey revealed over one fifth of women cited the day to day responsibilities of motherhood prevented them from having the time, money or energy to keep up to date with make-up trends.

An Albany woman surveyed said, “I'd just like to feel pretty! I feel frumpy in my post-three-babies body with my everyday 'no make-up mummy’ face.”

Dayrel adds, ‘We’ve been told by customers they sometimes feel intimidated visiting make-up counters. This amnesty will allow women to receive real advice from our supportive staff who understand the demands of Kiwi women who are time-poor and who want to look good effortlessly.”
