Rackets, Alizarin Lizard, The Porpoise: NZ Tour

Media Release - For immediate release 6-10-2010

Rackets, Alizarin Lizard, The Porpoise: New Zealand Tour 2010.

Auckland trio, Rackets, Dunedin quartet Alizarin Lizard, and one-man band, The Porpoise, are about to embark on a jaw dropping, forty two-date New Zealand tour. The travelling road show will run throughout October, November & December 2010. A possible record breaker, this is the definition of hitting the road properly for a New Zealand tour.

Rackets have a reputation as one of Auckland's hardest working / gigging bands, and have just supported Head Like A Hole on their reunion shows. Made up of members from The Randoms and God Bows to Math, Rackets are renowned for their intense live sets and quirky melodies. The group have just released two debut albums - Friends and High Places. The albums were produced by Bob Frisbee (The D4, Street Chant).

"Rackets uphold a lively and unpretentious approach to songwriting that sounds super fresh." - Chris Cudby, Real Groove Magazine.

Formed around the songs of Paul Cathro and featuring members of Biff Merchants and Tono and the Finance Company, Alizarin Lizard?s music ranges from the extremities of sharp, snappy pop, to feathers falling from a dark sky to a damp ground, which then feeds off the moisture, then turns into flower birds which fly away to the massive realm of large sounds, in many cases encompassing both worlds in the same song.

"Wrenching, magical. That's (Cathro's) ability ? to make the abstract move you. One of the greatest songwriters I know." - Anthonie Tonnon, Tono and the Finance Company.

Rackets and Alizarin Lizard will be supported by a new project called The Porpoise ? A one-man band AKA Callum Hampton from the Dunedin based psychedelic space rock band, Left Or Right. Porpoise likes to be in his natural habitat most of the time with his left handed bass and Casio club thumping beats swimming around whilst enjoying the songwriting talents of Darcy Clay, Frank Zappa and Devo amongst others.

This New Zealand Tour will be one to tell the grand kids. Before and after photographs will be taken. Make your way out of the bush, shacks, houses and mansions of the country to witness a piece of New Zealand DIY music history in a town near you.
