No Sweat Parenting with Pio Terei

No Sweat Parenting with Pio Terei

Hamilton, Friday 3 December 2010

“A ripper of an event!” That’s how well known entertainer, Pio Terei describes the Manāki Whānau /No Sweat Parenting event he’ll be presenting at Melville Intermediate School, Hamilton on Friday 3 December. “It’ll be great fun, with lots of humour, lots of good stories… and mixed in with it will be some fantastic ideas on how to make some great changes in the way you bring up your kids.” The evening will start at 6.30pm and finish at 8.00pm. There will be a sausage sizzle from 5.30pm and childcare available on the night too.

There are a number of local community organisations that are working in the Hamilton region to make this event relevant and reach families who may not have had an opportunity to participate in a parenting event before.

One thing Pio can guarantee is that it won’t be boring. “We all know that being a good mum and dad is so important, but we don’t want to be bored to death learning how to do it. Manāki Whānau/No Sweat Parenting is a special programme we’ve put together for Māori but is very popular with Pasifika, Pākehā and other cultures. It has great parenting ideas - the whole package, from start to finish, is a blast. It’s entertaining! You’ll go home with your head full of good ideas and your face tired from grinning so much.”

“I know: most people would rather have their teeth drilled than go to a parenting event,” say Pio, “But this is different. People come away feeling they have had a great night’s entertainment but they also take away a stack of practical skills they are itching to try when they get home, and a dose of hope that they can make it as a parent. “

“We’ve presented Manāki Whānau/No Sweat Parenting programmes to everyone from kindy mums to gang members, good parents and not-so-good parents. All of them get something worthwhile out of it.” The programme aims to cater for a wide range of parents, but especially ‘hits the nail’ with Maori and Pacific people. “It covers all kiwi parents and it’s funky – it’s got a bit of brown tinge to it,” says Pio.

Pio Terei has established himself as one of NZ's most popular entertainers and corporate speakers. Pio is of Ngapuhi and Te Rarawa descent and is sincere in his passion for his whanāu and his people. He has a strong desire to see parents in communities around NZ raise awesome kids. Together with wife Debbie, they have three amazing sons.

Food and prizes contribute to a relaxed atmosphere for learning in which an amazing amount of valuable information is passed on. Come early to get a place and be prepared to be entertained!
