Waatea 603 AM Broadcasts 2010 Maori Sports Awards

The country’s leading Maori radio programme producer – Waatea 603 AM – will devote five hours of live-to-air coverage to the prestigious national Maori Sports Awards on Saturday December 4.

The bilingual broadcast will be fronted by Maori sports commentator Dale Husband and television journalist Rewa Harriman (nee Hudson), a former tennis star who won the title of Junior Maori Sports Woman in 1997 and 1998. Te Kauhoe Wano and Julian Wilcox will provide interviews and commentary as roving reporters during the ceremony.

Part of UMA Broadcasting, Waatea 603 AM is Auckland's only Maori radio station, providing an extensive bilingual schedule to its listeners including talkback, news, current affairs and music.

Waatea 603 AM general manager Bernie O’Donnell says the special sports broadcast from the official ceremony will include on-stage presentations and entertainment, interviews with leading Maori personalities, and profiles of the awards, finalists and scholarship recipients.

Live coverage will begin at 5pm on the station’s Auckland frequency, streamed live on the website, www.waatea603am.co.nz, and will be available to the national iwi radio network.

The organisation will also provide coverage of the awards in its Maori and English language news bulletins which are broadcast on the 603 AM frequency and in National Radio’s Morning Report.

“Waatea is proud to have been the official radio broadcaster of the national Maori Sports Awards since 2004 and we look forward to our ongoing partnership to celebrate and promote Maori achievement in sport.”

Waatea 603 AM presents the 2010 National Maori Sports Awards – supported by Te Mangai Paho – on Saturday December 4 from 5pm.
