New Chief Executive for Sir Peter Blake Trust

The Sir Peter Blake Trust has a new chief executive. Shelley Campbell joined the organisation this week to lead the Trust in implementing its leadership development and environmental programmes throughout the country.

Sir Peter Blake Trust Chairman George Frazis says the board is delighted to have someone of Shelley’s calibre taking the helm of the Trust.

“The Trustees are confident she and the team will take the Trust to new levels of success in achieving the Sir Peter Blake Trust’s vision.

“It is also a great testament to the calibre of the pool of talent that have been recognised with Sir Peter Blake Emerging Leader Awards that we were able to appoint a past recipient of this award as our new CEO. Shelley received an Emerging Leader award in 2007 and in doing so was the first person from the health sector and the first Maori woman to receive this prestigious award,” said Mr Frazis.

Prior to taking up her new role Shelley was overseeing the business case process for the Ministry of Health’s reforms in Auckland. She is a former chief executive of the Waikato Primary Health Organisation that provided health services to 315,000 people across the central North Island.

Shelley is a member of Cancer Council NZ and Chair of the Minister’s National Bowel Cancer Screening Taskforce. She was a member of the New Zealand delegation to the World Health Assembly in 2008 and has examined health systems in Canada and the UK.

The Sir Peter Blake Trust focuses on New Zealand leadership development in a number of ways including the annual Sir Peter Blake Leadership Awards. The Blake Medal and Emerging Leader awards recognise the achievements of outstanding New Zealand leaders.

Shelley says one key element of the Trust’s work is Leadership Week where people from all walks of life are encouraged to explore how leadership shapes the future of their community and of New Zealand.

“During Leadership Week schools, businesses and organisations from around the country are involved in events designed to develop leadership capability and motivate future leaders. The week ends with national Red Socks Day - a celebration of Sir Peter’s iconic socks worn when winning the America’s Cup for the first time,” she says.

The Trust also encourages young people to become involved in environmental leadership through programmes that develop awareness of the marine environment and ways to take action to safeguard it.

“The Sir Peter Blake Trust has made considerable progress in developing leadership and raising awareness of the fragile marine environment since the Trust’s inception by the New Zealand Government after Sir Peter’s untimely death on the Amazon River.

“To be selected as the Trust’s new CEO to carry on Sir Peter’s work with the environment and to continue developing great New Zealand leadership is a tremendous honour and opportunity and I’m looking forward to the next stage of the Trust’s journey.”
