42BELOW Sets New World Record

42BELOW Sets New World Record

Our trophy cabinet may already be overflowing, but luckily we’ve found space to make room for one very special certificate. Last night, in New York City, a ‘dream team’ of 42BELOW staff and bartenders set a new Guinness Book of World Record for the most cocktails poured in one hour.

The cocktails had to have a minimum of three ingredients and at the end of 60 minutes they had poured an astonishing 1,541 drinks. The eight person team included the winners of the 2010 42BELOW Cocktail World Cup, Team USA, as well as finalists from the 2011 event to be held this month in Queenstown. It also included 42BELOW’s US brand ambassadors.

“We were pretty confident we could set the record but even we were surprised by how many drinks we managed to pour,” said 42BELOW Brand Ambassador and team ringleader, Borys Saciuk. “This quality of the drinks and the ability of the bartenders bodes well for a great Cocktail World Cup.”

The record attempt pulled in a large crowd to Liberty Hall at NYC’s ultra hip, ACE hotel. The team first prepared an impressive assembly line to help facilitate speedy drink making. Among the ingredients used were fresh limes, lemons, grapefruits, oranges, cucumbers, mint and basil bunches and 108 bottles of 42BELOW Vodka.

With the stage set, the official timekeepers prepared their stopwatches and the show began. The barmen put on a seemingly effortless display squeezing limes and twisting lemons, then swiftly moving on to the next libation. They made everything from a vodka highball, traditional Martini and Moscow mules.

As the final drop of cocktail 1,541 was poured, the clock stopped and their effort was declared a new world record. “1,541 cocktails is an impressive number of libations, and of course, we can’t let them all go to waste,” said Guinness World Records Adjudicator, Amanda Mochan.

The 42BELOW Cocktail World Cup will be held in spectacular style in and around Queenstown from March 14th. Seven teams from around the world will compete in the 2011 ‘Carnival of the Cocktail’.
