Mega-stars including Johnny Depp, Justin Bieber, Selena Gomez, The Black Eyed Peas, Miley Cyrus, Jennette McCurdy, Eddie Murphy and Shaquille O’Neal reigned as this year’s kid Favourites, winning top honours at Nickelodeon’s 2011 Kids’ Choice Awards earlier today. The spectacular show will be fast-tracked to Kiwi audiences tonight at 6.30pm on Nickelodeon.

Hosted by actor/comedian Jack Black and broadcast from the Galen Center at USC in Los Angeles, kids’ top choices in television, movies, music and sports were revealed in innovative ways, such as via slime slushie, a cheerleader and even a bear on a unicycle! Black proved that nothing was going to get in the way of his arrival at the venue – especially not a long limo line – by making a grand entrance in the Kids’ Choice monster truck. With the help of a dancing flash mob along the orange carpet, he kicked off the slime-fest with his own rockin’ rendition of The Black Eyed Peas’ “I Gotta Feeling.” The KCA and Grammy Award-winning chart toppers then took center stage with a medley of hit songs “Just Can’t Get Enough” and “The Time” featuring Black - the Honourary Pea!

Throughout the show, orange blimps were presented to Johnny Depp for Favourite Movie Actor (after which he doused the mosh pit in slime); Miley Cyrus for Favourite Movie Actress; The Karate Kid for Favourite Movie andDespicable Me for Favourite Animated Movie. Jackie Chan won top honours for Favourite Buttkicker and Eddie Murphy took home the blimp for Favourite Voice from an Animated Movie for his role of Donkey in Shrek Forever After. In the television categories, Favourite TV Show went to iCarly; Favourite Reality Show to American Idol; Favourite Cartoon to SpongeBob SquarePants; Favourite TV Actor to Dylan Sprouse; Favourite TV Actress to Selena Gomez and Funniest TV Sidekick to Jennette McCurdy. In music, top honours went to for Katy Perry for Favourite Female Singer; The Black Eyed Peas for Favourite Music Group and Justin Bieber for Favourite Male Singer while his track “Baby,” featuring Ludacris, won for Favourite Song. Most valuable players Shaquille O’Neal and Lind
sey Vonn won for Favourite Male Athlete and Favourite Female Athlete, respectively.

The Diary of a Wimpy Kid series garnered Favourite Book and Just Dance 2 won Favourite Videogame. In a new special category this year, Josh Duhamel was immortalized into the ‘Arm Fart Hall of Fame’ as voted by viewers during the live U.S. telecast.

Kids chose their Favourites by casting a record-breaking 200 million votes March 7-April 2 in 20 categories. Votes were cast via http://www.nick.com/kca11 as well as Nick’s mobile website http://m.nick.com/kca11 and through a brand-new iPhone application.

During the show, Nickelodeon stars and music group Big Time Rush were joined onstage by surprise guest Snoop Dogg to perform their current single “Boyfriend,” off their newly-certified Gold debut album BTR. Willow Smith made an aerial entrance as the mosh pit moved and grooved to her hit songs “21st Century Girl” and “Whip My Hair” and even KCA winner Eddie Murphy got in on the musical action as he led the audience in an impromptu “Happy Birthday” song to himself. The Big Show helped set a slime record for the first-ever super cyclone monster truck jump into 7600 gallons of goop; Heidi Klum was doused in typical slime-tastic fashion and Jason Segel got a face of the green goo too. While Britney Spears escaped being slimed, she was no match against Kung Fu Panda’s Po and his bowl of noodles.

Rosario Dawson presented former Kids’ Choice Awards host and winner Justin Timberlake with Nickelodeon’s The Big Help Award in recognition of his ongoing charitable work as a philanthropist with Shriners Hospitals for Children®. The Big Help Award recognizes individuals who take actions to better the world and whose significant impact on their community has inspired kids to do the same.

Jim Carrey made an appearance in an orange hot air balloon, dropping slime into the mosh pit and finishing off the night with Host Jack Black as it should be – epic and SLIMY!

The star-studded telecast featured additional celebrity participants, including: Kim and Kourtney Kardashian, Taylor Momsen, Steven Tyler, Joe Jonas, Russell Brand, Jaden Smith, Sofia Vergara, Jane Lynch, Nick Cannon, Miranda Cosgrove, Victoria Justice, Rosario Dawson, Rico Rodriguez, Cory Monteith, Keke Palmer, Shaun White, Randy Jackson and many others.
