Sean Kerr: Bruce danced if Victoria sang, and Victoria sang; so Bruce danced until 29 May A giant finger that deflates when you approach it, a subwoofer fart, a stack of 1970s speakers that respond to the audience, The Dowse is hosting the first survey exhibition of one of New Zealand's leading digital artists, Sean Kerr. Auckland-based Kerr is delighted to be returning to Lower Hutt, where he grew up and attended Wainuiomata College in the 1980s. Kerr's work employs slapstick humour to explore contemporary social trends and technologies. http://www.dowse.org.nz/News/Latest-News/Sean-Kerr-Bruce-Danced/

Richard Stratton: Aprés les Baleines (After the Whales) until 1 May 2011 Wellington ceramicist Richard Stratton has transported himself back in time, creating ornate and luxuriously glazed new works as if he was his ancestor, Francois Narbey, a 19th century whaler. Imagining his ancestor was equally skilled in the ceramic trade as he was in the techniques of early whaling, Stratton's pieces are in the style of English and European ornamental ware but with a contemporary twist. http://dowse.org.nz/en/Exhibitions/Current-Exhibitions/Richard-Stratton-Apres-les-Baleines-After-the-Whales/ Who Am I? Big Faces, Big Names: Portraits From The Dowse until 8 May 2011 Take a close look at portraits from The Dowse collection, including renowned New Zealand artists Rita Angus, Frances Hodgkins and Toss Woollaston. There are also contemporary works by Michael Smither and Paul Rayner's delightful ceramics bust of Carmen, Ken and Ken and Split Enz. This family show examines elements of portraiture, like pose, gaze, style and setting. Featuring hands-on activities, children will see how portraits can convey the personality of their subjects.
