1080 Poison Film Continues to Lead

1080 Poison Film Continues to Lead

The Graf Boys

The controversial, and hard-hitting documentary Poisoning Paradise continues to lead 1250 films from around the world, in the Popular section of the Culture Unplugged international film festival, and is holding second place in other categories.

The festival is run online to enable viewers to watch over 1250 selected films, from all over the world. Several New Zealand films feature in the festival.

Back in New Zealand however, the supporters and users of 1080 are not impressed. They say that Poisoning Paradise is propaganda, and mischievous - and they have gone to great lengths to make their objections known - including distributing an internal critique paper; and the mention of a dvd called The Lies of The Graf Brothers in the draft minutes of a DoC meeting; and at least one case of altering web-content.

Clyde Graf, who co-produced and directed the film with his brother Steve, is undeterred.

"It should be noted that at least 2 films have been made that counter Poisoning Paradise, with DoC's input - Why 1080, and 1080 Good News for Conservation. It is unreasonable for the supporters of 1080 to protest that Poisoning Paradise is bias, when both of these opposing films are clearly bias toward the use of 1080.

Every year,10's of thousands of native and non-native animals and birds, pets and livestock are killed in a horrendous, and protracted way by 1080 poison. In my opinion, to support the use of 1080 poison, is to support mass-scale animal cruelty.

New Zealand is surely one of the cruelest nations on earth, with regard to animal welfare, through our use of this poison, and what's more concerning is, the apparent willingness of those that support its use, to ignore this abhorrent fact.

Animal welfare is only one of many issues that make our reliance on the use of 1080 poison, so misguided.

After 40 years of using this stuff, there's still no credible evidence of benefit - but the poisoning continues.

We need to be more informed, and we need to redirect the money currently wasted on poisoning our forests, into more targeted and responsible methods of pest control. There are alternatives, and they should be pursued." Concluded, Clyde Graf.
