CRC Speedshow to feature 50th anniversary of hot rods

The 2012 running of CRC Speedshow in Auckland features a very special national hot rod show as the New Zealand Hot Rod Association celebrates its 50th anniversary at the annual automotive and motorsport expo.

Set to run over the weekend of 21 and 22 July at the ASB Showgrounds in Greenlane, Auckland next year, CRC Speedshow offers an excellent opportunity for the New Zealand Hot Rod Association to share their passion for highly-customised, unique vehicles with tens of thousands of Speedshow fans, says CRC Speedshow organiser Keith Sharp.

"This will be billed as the 50th anniversary national hot rod show and the organising clubs, Harbour City Rod Club based in Glen Eden and Howick-based Southside Streeters, are already deep into plans to put together a show that will attract New Zealand's best hot rods and custom vehicles representative of fifty years of organised hot rodding in New Zealand," says Sharp.

"We can see that the two clubs have excellent backgrounds in hot rod event organisation and marketing and, together, we saw mutual benefit for our show and hot rodding, as a true automotive passion, to incorporate the 50th anniversary national hot rod show at CRC Speedshow in 2012."

Since its inception in 2007, CRC Speedshow has featured a number of top-class hot rods on display each year. In the past two years, the Meguiar's Car Crazy display zone with its hand-picked display of some of the best hot rods in New Zealand has been a fan highlight.

Ian McNeill of Harbour City Rod Club, and NZHRA Zone 2 (Auckland) director and hot rod show chairman, comments: "CRC Speedshow attracts a wide variety of automotive enthusiasts and this will be the first time in a long time that we have had the opportunity to promote the NZHRA and New Zealand rodding to an audience of this size. CRC Speedshow is New Zealand's best quality automotive show and we anticipate the calibre of the hot rods on display will add to the professional image of next year's show. Already, we have been advised of a number of vehicles currently being built which are expected to make their official public debut at CRC Speedshow in July."

The 2012 CRC Speedshow will be the sixth time the annual event has run and Sharp is currently working with exhibitors to determine next year's star displays. "Interest from exhibitors across the new car, motorcycle, automotive supplies and motorsport sectors has been extraordinarily strong since the doors closed on our 2011 event, so I think it's safe to say that the 2012 show will be another must-see event for car and bike fans of all ages."

More information about the 2012 show, particularly for exhibiting companies, can be found on the website www.speedshow.co.nz.
