Rockshop Bandquest: Nelson band second in online regionals

Rockshop Bandquest - Nelson band takes second place in online regionals

Young bands have been playing off around the country over the last two weeks in Rockshop Bandquest, a new competition pitched at primary and intermediate school students.

Founder and director Glenn Common says the contest is the ‘younger brother’ of Smokefreerockquest, and has been organized at the request of teachers who wanted a platform for their students to show off their musical skills.

Glenn says the standard at the inaugural Bandquest has been consistently strong at contests held in Auckland, Christchurch, Dunediin, Tauranga and Napier. An online contest was held for bands where no regional final took place.

The winners of this were: First Place, Winning $400 of musical equipment from NZ Rockshops for their school music department, and a place in the on-line National Final - Triple As, Hutt Intermediate; second was Nisc & Easy - Nelson Intermediate; third went to Shadows in the Darkness -Campion College; and the best original song award went to 5th Element - Hutt International Boy's School. Placegetters win $100-$200 worth of gear from Rockshops.

The national final will be held via the website bandquest.co.nz where video footage from the regionals will be posted on December 2, with the results announced later that day.

The national winner’s school gets $2000 worth of gear from NZ Rockshops, the event’s naming sponsor.
