Dreamer by Design

"DREAMER BY DESIGN" - It's FINALLY here. New Zealand's best (and only) Taiwanese-Samoan Bromantic Comedy is screening soon in Auckland, and we'd love for you to come.

An independent "bromantic comedy" that takes a more realistic approach towards relationships. Phil, an Introverted Chinese-New Zealand university student finally meets the girl of his dreams; but fears, stereotypes and less-than-supportive friends are there to show him how romance works in the real world.

Loosely based on first and second-hand experiences, Dreamer by Design captures Phil Chao's (Horst Chen) final year at Canterbury University, working towards both educational and romantic success with Michelle (Julia Guthrey). Joining him are Jason (Matt Nati), his best friend, who is coincidentally Samoan along with Jason's vicious girlfriend Florentine (Anna Dediu) and nonsensical fly-on-the-wall Paul (Jordan Edgar). The film tells the story of the conflict of dreams and reality; when the things we want are what are just out of reach.

Dreamer by Design was written and shot in pre-Earthquake Christchurch by David Chan, specifically showcasing the central city and University areas and the variety of people living there. Made with no budget, by a primarily student-cast, with a volunteer cast and crew and produced and written by the creators, Dreamer by Design aims to give a cinematic experience that is still realistic and can resonate while the audience and also stays true to the spirit of the city.

Starring Horst Chen, Matt Nati, Anna Dediu and Julia Guthrey. Screenplay by David Chan and Jordan Edgar. Produced by Jordan Edgar. Directed by David Chan. Approx. 84 minutes long, English, no subtitles. Copyright ©2011 Angel Media Limited.
