Nigel Brown - Travel to Travel

Nigel Brown is an inveterate traveller and observer. This exhibition is based on his overseas travels to Europe, Russia, Japan, the Pacific and Antarctica spanning 30 years. Nigel Brown is acknowledged as a leading narrative artist whose distinctive works use a blend of symbolic and expressionistic approaches to voice deep social concern.

This is a bold and colourful exhibition that gives an insight into the influences and inspiration that make Nigel Brown one of New Zealand's most stimulating figurative artists.

Tree House - The McCahon Residency Five Years On

9 December 2011 - 12 February 2012

Opening this Thursday 8 December, 6pm

Judy Millar, Andrew McLeod, James Robinson, Gavin Hipkins, Rohan Wealleans, Richard Lewer, Luise Fong, Eve Armstrong, Lisa Reihana, Ava Seymour, Martin Basher, Andy Leleisi'uao, Jim Speers, Liyen Chong and Glen Hayward.

Tree House features memento works from the 15 artists who have held the residency to date. Each work was made as part of a limited edition during their stay and sold to collectors to support the continuation of the residency programme by The McCahon House Trust. Brought together for the first time, these diverse works present an engaging insight into the artists' sojourns at French Bay - like holiday snap shots capturing a special time and place.

Curiosity Cabinet: Sarah Walker-Holt

Opening this Thursday 8 December, 6pm

Sarah Walker-Holt is the winner of the 2011 New Zealand Jewellery Show Design Awards, Contemporary category. The judges were looking for a piece with x-factor and were impressed with the way in which Sarah treated recycled household materials in the same way precious metals and stones are treated in the best of fine jewellery.
