We are thrilled to be able to offer you the chance to win a double pass to ONE DROP Matakana. See below for competition details.

The not-to-be-missed ONE DROP events will reunite some of the original marauders of Aotearoa roots music: Fat Freddys Drop, with TrinityRoots and Cornerstone Roots presenting the festivities at Matakanas Ascension Wine Estate on Monday 2nd January 2012, and Fat Freddy's Drop and the Nudge bringing the party to Havelock North's Black Barn Vineyards on Saturday January 7th.

And if you love food as well as music, Fat Freddys Drop will be feeding some lucky fans when band member Iain Gordon cooks his world famous Paua Wontons. Keyboardist and cook Iain Gordon, aka Dobie Blaze, will be accompanied by fellow Freddys band members (including Hopepa on DJ duties) as he folds, cooks, and serves free Paua Wontons - the Euro Asian Pacific fried fantasy party pleaser will be served to the first 100 people with ONE DROP tickets that make it through the gates to each of the cooking shows. Itll be the place to be, just follow your nose to The Oak Grill Bistro at Ascension or the Growers Market at Black Barn.
The concept of serving Paua Wontons to the people before the shows follows a successful cooking demo that Gordon and Freddy's presented on the Chefs Unplugged stage at Harvest at Jimmys Festival in the UK earlier this year. Since then the band have filmed and released a video, FAT FREDDYS DROP PRESENTS KISS DA COOK Episode 3: PAUA WONTONS with Chilli Quince Sauce. The video follows the Paua Wontons recipe from the ocean to the plate and features the bands party tune The Nod.

Following the Paua Wontons entrée, the live music on the menu for ONE DROP kicks off in earnest.

New release fanfare
Some new Dub Asylum business has been released: a new digi-EP called Stereo Freeze, out next Monday (Dec 19). Six songs, some old, some new. Guests include Olly Harris (Kolab) and Chip Matthews (Open Souls). Lotsa melodica in there too. Hallelujah Picassos retrospective Rewind The Hateman is out now too - and there's a brand new new video, for the song God Gave Us Boom Boom Washington. The Picassos' Peter McLennan found some old Super 8 movie footage of the band live at the Powerstation and got some help from the talented Mr Justin Redding to edit it up into a demented visual blast. And that's not all of the treats in store for Picassos fans - the next reissue will be a digital collection of their legendary cover versions, including Peanut butter, It's a man's world (James Brown), Who do you love (Bo Diddley), and previously unreleased covers of Tears of a clown (Smokey Robinson via The Beat), and The The's Perfect. The release date will be in the first half of next year.

Over the past two decades, The Renderers have crafted half a dozen albums of intimate psychedelia infused with Southern-fried Americana and noise. A Rocket Into Nothing - crafted during the earthquakes that hit the band's hometown of Christchurch in 2011 - is another extraordinary display of Brian and Maryrose Crook's talent as songwriters and sound sculptors and shows The Renderers as an essential a piece of the diverse New Zealand indie rock puzzle - as much as they were on their first Flying Nun album Trail of Tears (1990).
