Orion Health Godzone Adventure Caps Entries As Event Nears Sell Out

100% PURE Racing have announced today that the Orion Health GODZone Adventure entry deadline has been bought forward by three weeks to February 14th, 2012 or earlier once the event is full.

The Orion Health GODZone Adventure will be held over Easter 2012, and co-director Adam Fairmaid says the decision has been driven by event entries exceeding expectations.

“We’ve got a great team behind the event, a world class location and a great adventure lined up for participants. We always thought we would generate a lot of interest at home and abroad but I didn’t think we be approaching 30 teams signed up before Christmas.”

The response has drawn both seasoned and novice racers from New Zealand and a strong showing from international teams.

“It’s great to see some new and old faces. We’re also delighted with the take up from overseas teams who have been attracted to the historic lure of a race in Queenstown. We also have three ‘colt’ teams who will be taking on an expedition race for the first time. The youngsters have not done anything this long or hard before but they are highly talented and will probably surprise a few seasoned racers along the way.”

Orion Health GODZone Adventure will now be capped at 36 teams due to logistical restrictions and the desire by the organisers to provide the best possible experience for all teams.

Event co-director Warren Bates says capping entries allows the organizing team to plan well in advance.

“An event of this magnitude is a huge undertaking and we want to get it right from the start. Locking in the number of teams as early as possible allows us to plan and procure equipment efficiently and this will enhance the experience for all involved.”

Adam Fairmaid agrees.

“We’re still getting a lot of enquiries and there are more teams ready to enter. A last minute flurry of entries in late February would be difficult to cope with from a kayak perspective. Therefore, with only a handful of slots remaining we’re urging those who want the experience of a lifetime to get involved and avoid disappointment.”
