On Saturday 18th February 2012, hundreds of adventurer seekers will head to Tawharanui Regional Park to compete in one of the most adrenaline-pumping adventure races in the Southern Hemisphere: the Kathmandu Adventure Series 2012.
Designed to be fast and furious, two-person teams will face varying legs of kayaking, mountain biking, running, coasteering and orienteering, as they navigate a secret cross-country course covering roughly 40km.
A test of both mental and physical strength, strategy plays a big part with challengers needing to plan the fastest and most efficient route as they map-read on the fly to locate hidden checkpoints.
Located only 80 minutes north of Auckland, the Tawharanui Regional Park is one of the race series’ most eye-catching courses. Boasting beautiful white sand beaches, rolling pastures, shingled bays, native coastal forest and wetlands; a stunning location for first time racers and veterans of the sport.
This is the second consecutive year the Kathmandu Adventure Series has taken place in New Zealand - a series that plays host to over 3,500 adventure-hungry competitors every year. Three events are planned for New Zealand during 2012 and a further eight will take place across Australia. In the series’ eight-year history over 15,000 racers have participated.
Ideal for those with a sense of adventure, the Kathmandu Adventure Series is open to anyone over 12 years of age.
Entry includes a unique orienteering race map, post-race meal, and a share in over $4,000 worth of prizes courtesy of Kathmandu.
