Silo Park: Amelie and An Emerald City with Dictaphone Blues

Silo Park Update: Amelie: Friday 23 March from 5pm ‘til late.

This week we present Amelie, a sweet, French romantic comedy from Jean-Pierre Jeunet.

Come along early to ensure you have a look around the handmade night market featuring various arts, crafts, food and beverage stalls, including popcorn and ice blocks for the film!

The Night Markets begin at 5pm for post work drinks in the sun, and the film begins at 9pm with a short film and music clip.

One woman decides to change the world by changing the lives of the people she knows in this charming and romantic comic fantasy from director Jean-Pierre Jeunet. Amelie (Audrey Tautou) is a young woman who had a decidedly unusual childhood; misdiagnosed with an unusual heart condition, Amelie didn’t attend school with other children, but spent most of her time in her room, where she developed a keen imagination and an active fantasy life. Despite all this, Amelie has grown into a healthy and beautiful young woman who works in a cafe and has a whimsical, romantic nature. When she spies a mysterious man, she falls in love and must fight her shy nature to meet him – engaging in all sorts of charming scrapes along the way.

An Emerald City with Dictaphone Blues: Saturday 24 March, midday ‘til 5pm.

Formed in late 2005, An Emerald City are a New Zealand six-piece with a musical voice that combines Eastern traditional instruments and psychedelic leanings with experimentation and liberation. Instrumental, thoughtful songs created by guitars, drums, synths, keyboards, sitars, violins, a Persian long necked lute, daabuka, piano and percussion found from various reaches of the universe. Their debut EP of 2008 featured alt radio favourites ‘Qing Song’ and ‘A Question’ and the band’s reputation grew further in 2009 after the release of debut album Circa Scaria which was recorded in the great cave of Whatipu amongst the black sand of Auckland’s isolated west coast.2009 was a big year for An Emerald City with stand out performances at the Auckland Big Day Out, sold out album release shows and Circa Scaria receiving critical acclaim from some of New Zealand’s most respected music voices. The album spent several weeks in the New Zealand Top 40 album chart and the band continued to play memorable live shows and festival performances across the country.
