iD Dunedin Fashion Week launches

Media Alert: Tuesday 27 March 2012

2012 iD Dunedin Fashion Week launches

iD Dunedin Fashion Week kicks off today with a week of fashion shows, events, tours, public talks, and exhibitions, culminating in the must-see iD International Emerging Designer Awards on Thursday night and the iD Dunedin Fashion Shows on Friday and Saturday nights.

Now in its 13th year, the iconic event, which attracts international attention, features a global line up of inspiring designers, creative talent and fun fashion and retail events open to everyone. An official invite-only launch event will be held this evening at the Otago Daily Times.

Limited tickets are still available for the public to witness fashion history in the making at the iD International Emerging Designer Awards, with 28 finalists from across the globe vying for top cash prizes, including the much coveted Mittelmoda Prize – giving the winner direct entry to the Mittelmoda Italian Fashion Awards held in Gorizia, Italy. The event will be held at Dunedin’s Lion Foundation Arena, Edgar Centre, this Thursday, March 29, at 7pm.

This year’s iD Dunedin Fashion Shows on the 110m catwalk at Dunedin Railway Station feature an incredible retrospective collection by international guest and two times winner of ANDAM, the world’s biggest fashion award, Lutz Huelle.

Coming to iD directly from Paris Fashion Week, the celebrated German-born designer, who founded the Paris-based LUTZ HUELLE label with business partner David Ballu in 2000, joins iD’s line-up of New Zealand fashion icons, including Nom*D, Tanya Carlson, Mild Red, Tamsin Cooper & Silkbody, Charmaine Reveley, Company of Strangers and more – and designers MisteR, Barbara Lee and Caroline Moore, showing in this year’s iD’s Celebrate Christchurch capsule collection.

Lutz’s presence at this year’s iD Fashion Shows continues the high standards set by previous iD international guest designers, Zandra Rhodes and Akira Isogawa. He will also join the prestigious iD Emerging Designer judging panel – which this year includes British style icon Hilary Alexander and Nicholas Huxley, one of Australia’s leading fashion authorities, alongside Dunedin’s own Tanya Carlson and Margi Robertson (Nom*D).

For a full calendar of not-to-be-missed fashion events – including public lectures with our international guests, special author talks, fashion on the fringe, the library’s Geek-Chic catwalk show, tours, exhibitions by local artists and jewellers, and the Darnell Renewed Fashion Show at Dunedin’s Golden Centre Mall, hosted by 2011 iD guest, author and curator Charlotte Smith – visit www.idfashion.co.nz.
