Day Four of GODZone Adventure

12th Thursday 2012

Day Four of GODZone Adventure

Day Four of the Orion Health Godzone Adventure, and it’s NZ team Seagate leading the pack having fought any attempts by following teams to catch them up over the 6 day event.

Seagate made fast time through the course today and are currently moving steadily through the high alpine trek over Mt Earnslaw towards the ropes section.

From there they travel down to the Rees Valley and Glenorchy for the final kayak leg. They are expected into Queenstown Bay and Queenstown Primary School finish line later today.

Team One Square Meal from Christchurch is in 2nd place and made good time overnight on the Eyre Mountain trek.

They have now entered the Mt Earnslaw trek this morning and are 9 hours behind Seagate.

In 3rd place is Queenstown team R&R Sport who are pacing nicely and holding steadily onto their position. They are biking along Lake Wakatipu toward the Mt Earnslaw section of the race.

Disappointment this morning for Richard Ussher’s team Subway Adventure Sport, who retired off the course halfway through the second mountain trek over the Eyre Mountains.

Race Director Adam Fairmaid said they entered the trek with Elina Ussher suffering from a chest injury and with breathing difficulties “It was a brave move to go on but they gave it everything they had and it was a prudent call to go back down off the mountain.”

Team Mountain Designs have also pulled out of the race and are now back in Queenstown.

Currently there are 18 teams racing the full course, 6 racing an amended course and 5 continuing on unranked.
