Christchurch Singer’s Debut CD a “sell out”

Media Release 1 May 2012

Christchurch Singer’s Debut CD a “sell out” – more released for Mother’s Day

Talented “classical crossover” singer, 24 year old Rebecca Nelson, has run off more of her CD, Pure Imagination, after selling out earlier this month.

Nelson says she is thrilled the CD is doing so well, particularly as it is self funded.

“It is a big challenge making an album, and with the support of friends and family and a lot of hard work, we have done it, and it’s selling well,” she says.

Rebecca has been busking on streets around the country after so many venues were lost in the Christchurch earthquakes and says singing in Cashel Mall is still the best place in New Zealand to sing in public.

“I enjoy bringing a little joy and atmosphere to the city while buildings around are being demolished,” she says. “Performing on the streets of the CBD is really special.”

After being spotted on the streets of Dublin a few years ago, this singing Kiwi was invited to tour with the hugely popular Irish group, The Priests, on a tour of the Emerald Isle. It was an experience Rebecca will never forget.

“They were such a lovely bunch of guys and everywhere we went people just loved them,” she says.

Rebecca is staying mum on when a second album will be forthcoming.

“I definitely want to do another one so it’s not a matter of if, it’s when.”
