Big names, big goals … and a NZ first for Cure Kids

PRESS RELEASE
28 June 2012

Big names, big goals … and a New Zealand first for Cure Kids

Cure Kids is thrilled to announce that many of the world’s most famous Kiwis have teamed up for Red Nose Day to Cure Kids.

The national appeal in August will include a New Zealand-first – a four and a half hour comic marathon on TV3 – Red Nose Day Comedy for Cure Kids – on 24th August. One hundred per cent of the donations will be invested into medical research into child health.

Approximately one child in 30 in New Zealand, roughly one in every classroom, lives with a life-threatening illness or genetic malformation. So it’s fitting that this year’s Red Nose Day to Cure Kids showcases kids in every community fundraising for their school, with an unforgettable trip to Europe up for grabs, courtesy of Red Nose Day partners Paper Plus and Take Note.

With only two months until Red Nose Day, schools are encouraged to start planning fundraisers now, so they can be part of the live broadcast.

Cure Kids is the official charity of the NZRU and All Blacks, and is proud to partner with TV3 for the comedy extravaganza Red Nose Day Comedy for Cure Kids. The line-up for the programme reads like a who’s who of Kiwi comedy greats and will feature internationally-renowned Kiwi icons – global phenomenon Flight of the Conchords, Rhys Darby, Jeremy Corbett, Paul Ego and the 7 Days panel. It will also include a special cameo appearance from some of the All Blacks.

“We want all of New Zealand to be involved in this fun event, raising money to help improve children’s health in every community in the country,” says Cure Kids CEO Vicki Lee.

“Cure Kids believes in having fun whilst raising funds – and we love that schools through to businesses are as passionate as we are about Red Nose Day creating a better future for children who live with illnesses every day of their life.

“Our goal is to fund outcome-driven research, so we can improve the health of children living with illness and prolong their life while we go for the ultimate goal of finding a cure for these cruel illnesses.”

Red Nose Day Comedy for Cure Kids organiser Brooke Howard-Smith says schools with the best fundraising initiatives will feature on the show, alongside a wealth of iconic Kiwis. The trip to Europe will be drawn at random and announced on the night.
