College Netball Grand Final: Tu Toa v Mount Albert Grammar

College Netball Grand Final: Tu Toa v Mount Albert Grammar

A fierce rivalry that dates back to 2006 will once again come to a head in College Netball’s Grand Final between Palmerston North’s Tu Toa and Auckland’s Mount Albert Grammar on Sunday evening.

The two teams will battle it out to be the College Netball Champions at Henderson’s Trust Stadium Arena, 5.20pm. This game will be the curtain raiser match prior to the Mystics v Swifts ANZ Championship match. SKY Sport’s full coverage of the College Netball Grand final will be broadcast at 6pm on Monday 2 July.

Tu Toa and Mount Albert Grammar are proven super powers within Secondary School Netball; they are the only two teams to have consecutively qualified for the NZ Secondary Schools Netball Championships since 2004 (Mount Albert) and 2005 (Tu Toa). Within this period of time the teams have met six times, the result swinging from year to year and the amount of wins three apiece.

Both teams boast a number of up and coming talent with a total of nine players having trialled for the New Zealand Secondary Schools team in April 2012.

Mount Albert Grammar Co-Coach Paula Smith says her team is very excited about playing in the Final of College Netball.

“We have a new dynamic team this year who are relishing the chance to play in the College Netball Final.”

Yvette McCausland-Durie believes that College Netball is an outstanding opportunity to show the potential and depth that Netball in New Zealand has on offer.

“For the players themselves, the experience is special in that they are exposed to a high performance approach and get a sense of the expectations that sit around the game. It is a vehicle to take other messages and values about sport and in particular Netball to a wider public forum and allows teams to experience varied styles of play that we would not regularly have the privilege of meeting.”
