GMR Adopts Focused Approach to Townsville

GMR Adopts Focused Approach to Townsville

Greg Murphy Racing is adopting a focused approach to Round 3 of the Dunlop V8 Supercar Development Series in Townsville, scaling back to two cars for Geoff Emery and Dale Wood.

Wood will slot into the VE Commodore campaigned by Daniel Jilesen last season. The car achieved very successful results at last year’s event, with Jilesen qualifying fourth and finishing third in the weekend’s second race. It is hoped Wood will be able to achieve similar success this weekend, as he attempts to improve his position in the series standings.

Meanwhile, Geoff Emery (Earthex / Wurth / NDD VE Commodore) has also achieved some good results at Townsville in the past, and the five-time Commodore Cup champion is coming off the back of a race win in the Commodore Cup Endurance Challenge at Winton just over a week ago. Townsville also marks Emery’s 39th round start in the V8 Supercar Development Series, moving him up to equal second position on the list of drivers with the most starts in the series.

GMR managing director Kevin Murphy is hoping for improved results compared to the first two rounds of the series at Adelaide and Barbagallo.

“At various times throughout the first two rounds of the series, our drivers have shown very promising pace, especially in qualifying,” he said. “Unfortunately, they have endured some bad luck in the races, or been caught up in incidents which were not of their own doing.

“It is hoped the experience of our drivers and the setup knowledge we have accumulated over the last few years of running at Townsville will allow Geoff and Dale to run towards the front of the field and stay out of trouble.”

As with the previous round at Barbagallo, the Townsville round of the series will feature three races, with Race 1 (on Saturday) being shown as part of Channel 7’s coverage of the V8 Supercars. The top-10 finishing positions in Race 1 will be reversed for the Race 2 starting grid, with Race 3 grid positions to be determined based on points accumulated by the drivers in Races 1 and 2.
