Books galore go out the door

Books galore go out the door

It’s time once again for the Central City Library’s popular bi-annual book sale and book-lovers can bag a bargain from 1-7 October.

Kate Roberts, Central City Library Manager, says there will be a wide range of books, CDs, DVDs and magazines priced at $1 and $2.

“Every year Auckland Libraries purchases around half a million new items and, to keep our collections fresh, we remove thousands of items as well.

“To make room on our shelves for new material, our librarians put aside worn, damaged or out-of-date material for our book sales.

“Our book sales are incredibly popular and there is always something for everyone amongst the withdrawn items,” she says.

The sale starts on Monday 1 October and will continue until Sunday 7 October unless all stock is gone before the week is up. Library staff recommend bringing along a bag to take purchases home in.

Throughout the year, withdrawn items are also donated to retirement homes, prisons, the Lions Club, Variety – The Children’s Charity and to Pacific countries.

Bargain Book Sale event details:

• Monday 1 October – Sunday 7 October
• Ground Floor, Central City Library, Lorne Street
• Monday to Friday: 9am - 8pm
• Saturday and Sunday: 10am - 4pm
• Pricing: Non-fiction $2, CDs, fiction and junior material $1 and DVDs $2
