Adventure Wellington Lauches Golden Bucket Competition

Adventure Wellington Lauches Golden Bucket Competition

Pledge for the Golden Bucket and win a trip to New Zealand from anywhere in the world

New Zealand will host a world record sandcastle-building attempt this November, and organisers Adventure Wellington are offering a chance to be there - inside a bucket.

By donating NZD$10 on PledgeMe.co.nz, pledgers not only help support local charity The Neonatal Trust, but also get a chance to win the Golden Bucket and an Air New Zealand flight to the event from anywhere in the world.

Other buckets, all made especially for the occasion by Weta Workshop (the special effects company behind The Hobbit, The Lord of the Rings and King Kong) and signed by the company's co-founder Richard Taylor, can be bought for NZD$100.

The event, a challenge to break the world record for the most sandcastles built in an hour, will happen on Sunday 25th November 2012 at Wellington’s Lyall Bay.

Adventure Wellington are hoping to attract more than 1000 participants, including some special guests in town for the world premiere of The Hobbit, which takes place the following Wednesday.

The Neonatal Trust was chosen as benefactor of the event because it provides incredible support to families whose premature babies are very ill, at a time when they need it most.

Adventure Wellington believes every child should have the chance to build a sandcastle, but for so many babies born prematurely, their families can only dream of the day their child can run down a beach with bucket and spade in hand.

To have a chance at winning one of two Golden Buckets, simply make a NZD$10 pledge at www.pledgeme.co.nz/Crowd/Details/519. You can pledge as many times as you like – the more pledges, the greater the chance of your name being drawn from the Bucket by Richard Taylor on November 5th. Anyone with a credit card can enter (you might want to check out the list of departure airports* that Air New Zealand can fly you from first).

Formed in 2008, Adventure Wellington (AW) is an active online group and charity that organises various outdoor and adventure activities.

AW has been behind some of the craziest events to hit Wellington: Santa Claus flash mobs, the ‘Zombie Island’ fun run and a Pirate Treasure Hunt, to name a few.

AW hosts around one thousand events per year, including walks, rafting, kayaking, rock climbing, laser force, paintball, windsurfing, scavenger hunts, go-carting, weekend trips, snorkelling, picnics and night hikes.

Joining the group is free and membership, currently at 1700, is growing by around 200 a month.
