EVENT PREVIEW

Grant's Turn to Head to Italy to Race

Last month it was arch-rival Daniel Bray flying to Italy to contest a major kart meeting. This month it is fellow KZ2 class front runner Ryan Grant's turn.

Grant heads off tomorrow to Italy to prepare for the prestigious Trofeo delle Industrie meeting at Lonato over the October 20-12 weekend.

The meeting is the annual season-ender for the Italian chassis and engine industry and - as its name suggests - has been going for 40 years.

Grant tested in Italy earlier in the year and was invited to return for the Trofeo meeting by kart manufacturer Maranello, whose New Zealand agent, expat Italian Danny Olla, is accompanying him on the trip.

After tearing the medial collateral ligament in his left knee in a freak accident at the final round of this year's Mi Sedaap Pro Kart Series at Rotorua in early September there was a real possibility that Grant would have to call the trip to the Trofeo meeting off.

But rehab has gone well and with a kneebrace Grant says he will be fine.
