Students Serve Up Visual Feast

Students Serve Up Visual Feast

The work of our top up-and-coming artists will be on view to the public for one weekend in November when final-year students from The University of Auckland’s Elam School of Fine Arts showcase their talents. A highlight of the arts calendar, the annual Elam Graduate Show is an opportunity to see first-hand the future direction of contemporary art in New Zealand.

Featuring a diverse range of artwork by over 120 BFA, BFA(Hons), PGDipFA and MFA students, the exhibition includes painting, sculpture photography, installation, sound work, design and multimedia projects.

Elam has enjoyed a long history of producing many of New Zealand’s most notable artists. This year is no exception with the winner of the country’s most valuable art award – the Walters Prize – being bestowed upon Elam MFA graduate Kate Newby. More Walters Prize winners have been associated with Elam than any other art school.

“We are very proud of the success of all artists who are connected to Elam. Their success is a testament to the quality of the teaching at our school – Elam artists are and will become the leaders of creative practice in New Zealand. The quality of work in this year’s Elam Graduate Show demonstrates the extraordinary talent and dedication of our current students, many of whom will go on to enjoy illustrious careers” says Head of School, Derrick Cherrie.

Each year the Elam Graduate Show attracts thousands of people including New Zealand's top art curators, dealers and collectors, many of whom are looking for the next generation of talented artists. Free and open to the pubic, it is a unique opportunity to indulge in a weekend-long visual feast of contemporary art.
