Browns Bay Cafe launches
monthly art exhibitions
Every month
from now on, beach. cafe at 1a beachfront lane, Browns Bay
will host a new art exhibition. Steve Laird, the proprietor,
realised that there were no venues for artists to display
their work on the north shore, so decided to hand over all
the walls of his cafe to new artists each month. The first
exhibition was held last month, showing off the work of
local artists Desiree Lenton & Gislayne Martins. This month
it is the turn of local award-winning photographer, Richard
Leonard. Unlike most cafes that put up occasional work by
the same artists, Steve has decided to devote all his walls
entirely to the work of one artist (or a partnership) each
month. This exciting development means that an artist has
the opportunity to display a broad range of work at one
time.
Richard said of this opportunity: "It is fabulous of Steve to take this initiative & very generous of him to provide the facilities. It is very difficult for artists & photographers to find a good location to display their work on the north shore & in one bold move, Steve has solved that problem! Given that there is no entry fee & the coffee is gorgeous, why not make beach. your preferred stop for a coffee? Where else can you find fresh new art decorating every wall, every month? I can't see that it will be long before other cafe owners are forced to follow suit...!"
