Mitre 10 Customers Gather for Mo-Off

Not often is building and trade associated with men’s health but today hammers and hard hats will be cast aside for the cause as Mitre 10 Trade host the biggest Movember event in the country at Hampton Downs.

About 300 Mitre 10 Trade customers have responded to the inaugural Mitre 10 Trade Challenge and will gather tomorrow with a host of celebrity VIP guests for a massive ‘Mo-Off’ shave. With staff and suppliers also participating the Mitre 10 Trade Challenge is looking set to raise close to $50,000 for Movember.

“Mitre 10 has climbed aboard the Mo Train for 2012 as a major sponsor and has been encouraging kiwi blokes to let their moustaches sprout,” said General Manager Trade Andrew Cochrane.

“Movember is a great cause and partnering Mitre 10 Trade with it has given us an opportunity to raise money and increase awareness of men’s health in the building industry.”

The close to 300 moustaches will be shaved off in the designated Mo-Off tent, after Brendon Pongia judges each hairy growth.

The 300 customers from Northland, Auckland and Waikato stores are expected to attend the Mo-Off. The day runs from 8.30am to 4.30pm featuring a variety of supplier stands with freebies and games. Six V8 racing utes will provide hot laps for the customers around the Hampton Downs race circuit.

A health tent will be on site to offer health advice and all tent visitors will go into the draw to win a signed and framed Richie McCaw All Black rugby jersey. Brights, Mammoth and Frucor are supporting the event by supplying food and beverages and New Zealand’s first Masterchef Brett McGregor will be on hand to cook up a storm

VIP guests include Ex-All Blacks Ron Cribb and Justin Collins and sports broadcaster John McBeth. Movember New Zealand Country Manager Robert Dunne will also be attending.

2012 marks the seventh year New Zealand has taken part in Movember, with the idea originating in Australia in 2003. The month has a special meaning for fathers, sons and kiwi blokes as funds raised boost programmes that focus on creating awareness and understanding of prostate cancer and male mental health, through the Cancer Society of New Zealand and the Mental Health Foundation of New Zealand.
