Munro Turns His Attention to Timaru

Munro Turns His Attention to Timaru

After a superb national championship debut at Teretonga Park last weekend fifteen-year-old Christchurch driver James Munro now has his sights firmly set on Round 2 at Timaru this weekend.

Championship rookie Munro took his Mygale to pole position and a debut race win in the New Zealand Formula Ford Championship at Teretonga and lies third in the point standings as he heads to the Timaru International Motor Raceway at Levels just to the north of Timaru.

Munro has never raced on the full 2.4 kilometre layout that will be in use for this meeting but he has raced on the shorter 1.6 kilometre circuit that was used when the South Island Formula Ford Championship visited the track in November. Munro won every one of his races at that meeting and set a new lap record for the short circuit.

While he has not raced on the longer variation of the track he has tested on it. "It is a nice track. Hopefully I will go well. We have the pace and we will sort out any issues we had at Teretonga last weekend and come back stronger."

After testing on Friday James will take part in a 20 minute qualifying session from 10.15am on Saturday morning. Race 1 for the round, over 10 laps, is timed to start at 2.20pm that afternoon. The following day James will face two more races, the first also over 10 laps at 9.50am on Sunday morning, with the third and final race over 12 laps at 1.00pm.
