Damon Leitch Heads To Penultimate Round

Damon Leitch Heads To Penultimate Round

The intense competition of the Toyota Racing Series continues for Damon Leitch of Invercargill this weekend as the penultimate round takes place at Hampton Downs in Waikato.

Leitch has been fast throughout the series mixing it with the many international drivers who see the benefit of such a competitive series during the Northern Hemisphere winter. As many as nine drivers have been under the lap record in qualifying for rounds of the series highlighting just how hard and close competition is. As in the past two seasons Leitch has been in the thick of the action accumulating a series of good results throughout the first three rounds. The point standings are very tight at present and Leitch sits in seventh place with two rounds to go.

Hampton Downs is a comparatively new circuit on the New Zealand landscape but Leitch describes it as "a pretty good track." "It has a couple of high speed corners and some tighter sections. I need a good run and some good finishes." The drivers in the series are very closely matched and passing in the equally matched cars is difficult making grid position extremely important. "Qualifying will be really important. I will need to put a good lap together," says Leitch.

After two 15 minute qualifying sessions on Saturday morning Leitch and the Post Haste Couriers Toyota will contest a 15 lap race at 3.00pm on Saturday afternoon. The following morning, at 11.00am another 15 lap race is scheduled with the third and final race over 20 laps for the New Zealand Motor Cup timed to start at 3.00pm.
