Bonnie Raitt To Headline NZ Jazz And Blues Festival

Nine-time Grammy Award winner Bonnie Raitt will headline the Cavell Leitch New Zealand Jazz and Blues Festival in Christchurch later this year.

The popular festival is on from April 3 to 7 and brings together some of the top names in the world of jazz and blues music.

This year's programme will see acclaimed American blues singer and song-writer Bonnie Raitt performing one concert only in the CBS Arena on April 5.

Other artists confirmed to perform in the festival include Irish jazz and blues singer Mary Coughlan, three-piece British band Kitty, Daisy and Lewis, and Christchurch's own favourite chanteuse Jennine Bailey.

"We are thrilled to be able to present a such broad programme again after the setbacks of the last couple of years," says festival director Jodi Wright. "There is a real appetite for music again in the city and the response to the jazz artists is always so heartfelt."

This year's festival programme features a special new addition - an unforgettable night which brings together food, wine, and jazz. Andrew Brown, executive chef at The George hotel, Black Estate winemaker Nicholas Brown and musician Harry Harrison are combining their talents to create a night to remember.

The Cavell Leitch New Zealand Jazz & Blues Festival began in 1998 as a biennial event and is now presented annually.

The largest jazz festival in New Zealand, the event comprises more than 60 national and international jazz artists performing at a variety of venues in the Christchurch region.

The festival is core funded by the Christchurch City Council and receives donations from a range of other in-kind, contra and financial supporters.
