Spotify Cranks up the Metal with New Apps

Today Spotify puts the pedal to the metal by launching apps from two of the rock genre’s biggest names.

Following the arrival of Metallica last December, Spotify is taking its metal offering to even greater heights with the launch of new apps from heavy metal bible Metal Hammer and indie record label Century Media.

The new app from Metal Hammer, one of the foremost authorities on metal in the world, brings Spotify users the best in the past, present and future of metal music. The magazine brings all its expertise to the app with a ton of specially curated playlists, including:

• Killer Covers: A list of the finest cover versions from the metal world

• 1980: The Best Year For Metal? From Motorhead to Maiden, ten reasons why 1980 was the best year for heavy metal.

• Pantera Ultimate Playlist: Dimebag. Phil. Rex. Vinnie. All you need right here.

Alexander Milas, editor of Metal Hammer, says: "The way that metal fans connect with music may be changing, but their passion for it never has. Metal Hammer's been helping fans connect since 1986, and with Spotify we're bringing it into the 21st century. Turn it up."

Legendary rock music label Century Media also brings its official app “Metal of the Century” to Spotify, bubbling over with entertaining and informative features from the most successful and fascinating acts in metal, prog, rock, punk and hardcore.

Features include personally curated and continually updated playlists from artists including Anders Friden (In Flames), Greg Mackintosh (Paradise Lost), Bleed From Within and Cristina Scabbia (Lacuna Coil). In addition, each label of the Century Media family gets its own section where users can check out the best in new releases and browse through news stories and tour dates.
