Kiwis Take On Aussies At Spring Nationals

Kiwis Take On Aussies At Spring Nationals

Triathlon New Zealand has sent a development team to the Geelong ITU Oceania Cup in Australia tomorrow, a race that also doubles as the Australian Sprint Championships.

National Coach Greg Fraine is accompanying a four strong team with the intention of gaining valuable international experience.

“The Geelong ITU Oceania cup is a great opportunity to take a group of development athletes to an international race. The preparation required for key races is very important for all developing athletes and the Australian race offers just the right amount of hype in an environment that is not the hotbed of a European event.

“The athletes can go through the pre-race routines they will use later in the season at key events such as the World Champs in London.”

Dodds is the sole male representative and will be looking for a strong hit out after crashing out of the Oceania Cup and New Zealand Sprint Championships in Kinloch a week ago, while in the women’s Sophie Corbidge looks to continue her strong form that saw her finish runner up to Kate McIlroy in Kinloch.

The athletes racing in Geelong are: Maddie Dillon (Auckland), Sophie Corbidge (Auckland), Rebecca Kingsford (Tirau) and Tony Dodds (Wanaka).
