Lightfoot Ready To Get Back On Track

Lightfoot Ready To Get Back On Track

Mike ‘Buzz’ Lightfoot is excited and rearing to go for a new season in the New Zealand V8 Utes, with a new Ute to help with the aim to repeat last season’s podium championship result.

This season sees Lightfoot step into the Ford Falcon Ute that has won the championship for the previous two seasons and although similar, there are plenty of changes between the new Ute and the old one. The Ute will once again be run by the Stoneman Race Tech team, who not only gave Lightfoot a career best third in the series last year, but also have engineered the new Ute to its two championships.

With a new Ute comes a new group of sponsors for the 2013 season, with Precision Components coming on board as title sponsor while Promotion by Design and Norgren will also support Lightfoot’s campaign. With new sponsors comes a new livery and the striking black and green Precision Components Ute will be hard to miss out on the track.

Changes within the V8 Ute structure have seen the series move to support the V8 SuperTourer series as opposed to the NZV8’s in previous seasons, which sees the series starting in February and running through the year, as opposed to November and running across the summer.

The change also sees the V8 Utes return to Hampton Downs. Lightfoot took his first podium finish at the North Waikato track in his debut season with the Utes, in only his second ever meeting. So it is no surprise that the Aucklander is looking forward to getting back on to the track this weekend, despite having not yet driven his new Ute.

After a test session of Friday, the UDC V8 Utes will qualify and have two races on Saturday with a further two races on Sunday to round out the weekend.
