M2 Motorsport Aiming To Continue On Impressive Learning Curve

M2 Motorsport has revealed the new livery for its 2013 BNT V8 SuperTourer campaign, and is promising to build on its solid 2012 results.

Driver Simon McLennan will begin his first Sprint Series in SuperTourers having joined the grid for the endurance rounds in 2012, first with Craig Innes and then with young Aussie ace Cameron Waters. With Waters on board the team scored an excellent fifth place result at the final 2012 round at the Powerbuilt Tools Raceway, Ruapuna, and is aiming to build on that in 2013.

M2 Motorsport – the only Wellington-based V8 SuperTourer team - is run out of father Colin McLennan’s family run facility and uses mechanics who have worked with Simon in Porsches and Minis.

“There’s been quite a bit of movement of mechanics and engineering staff between teams in the off season, but we have kept with exactly the same team and we have been quietly getting on with our preparation for the new season knowing that we will have a good starting point in terms of set-up,” explained McLennan.

“We believe we can race toe-to-toe with the very best out there and we’ve already demonstrated our intention to do so,” he added. “Starting the season on the same page as the other teams and drivers will even things out further still, and we are quietly confident that we can find a good starting point at Hampton Downs, turn a few heads, and build from there. As long as we are improving, we’re happy and that’ll be our game plan for Hampton Downs, for the Sprint Series and for the Enduro Series later on.”

‘Team Wellington’ also revealed a cool ‘mirror’ livery on its 2013 challenger, with the car predominately white rather than red. A major sponsor is still to be found, but the team are optimistic that positive results in the early part of the season will translate to some valuable commercial support.
