Casquets Blue Diamond Bound?

Casquets Blue Diamond Bound?

Exciting two-year-old filly Casquets has put her name forward as a possible contender for this weekend’s Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes with a smart win in Saturday’s A$120,000 Listed Talindert Stakes (1100m) at Flemington.

Trained by Mark Kavanagh, Casquets (Fastnet Rock x Suitely) fought hard in the concluding stages to beat rival Annenberg (Artie Schiller) by a long head and now Kavanagh must decide whether to line the filly up in this Saturday’s Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes.

It Has to Be You for HK Derby

The lightly raced It Has To Be You (NZ) galloped his way into Hong Kong Derby calculations at Sha Tin last night with a breakthrough win in the HK-1 Hong Kong Classic Cup (1800m) – the second leg of the Hong Kong Four-Year-Old Series.

It Has To Be You (Volksraad x Centalear) was given a great ride by jockey Tim Clark, keeping the son of Volksraad on the rails in the straight and used the gelding’s turn of foot in the last 200 metres to hold off the late challengers to win by three-quarters of a length.

“He’s done nothing wrong since he’s been in Hong Kong, he’s been progressive every step of the way,” said trainer John Size. It’s just a matter of getting up to the distance that will let him show his prowess as a racehorse and I think the 1800 metres is the beginning of that.”

Totality Win in Three Rings Trophy

A three month spell has proved a successful move for the connections of Totality (NZ) who took the biggest win of his career last night in the Sgp-3 Three Rings Trophy (1400m) at Kranji.

Not seen on the track since November last year, Totality (Danroad x Brindillemousse) turned his form around with a tough fresh-up performance, producing a late turn-of-foot in the straight to win by half a length.

“I didn’t trial him last week as I didn’t want to fire him up, but at the same time just keep him nicely tuned up for his return and to win first-up out of the paddock is a credit to his qualities,” said trainer Michael Clements.

Capone Captures Taranaki Cup

An exciting finish in the $80,000 Group 3 Hooker Pacific Taranaki Cup saw the NZB South Island Sale graduate Capone take the feature race on the card at Pukekura Raceway on Saturday.

Ridden by Noel Harris in Saturday’s race, the son of Al Akbar raced mid-field before getting clear at the top of the straight and just getting the better of rival Fairway Wish (Sandtrap) at the post to win by a nose for trainer Danica Guy.

Karaka graduates completed the race quinella with Fairway Wish (Sandtrap) finishing second and Jetset Lad (Elusive City) third.
