More than 8000 tickets sold so far to NZ’s largest beer festival in Hagley Park
Ticket sales to The Great Kiwi Beer Festival on Saturday (23 February) are tracking just ahead of last year’s sell-out inaugural event.
With 8000 tickets already sold and a favourable long-range weather forecast, organisers have increased the site’s capacity by 50 per cent and doubled the number of toilets to allow for up to 12,000 festival goers.
Covering 35,000m², the equivalent of five football fields, this year’s Great Kiwi Beer Festival will feature a range of brand experience areas for more than 40 breweries, from craft brewers through to some of the country’s biggest beer producers.
Food will again be a big feature of what’s become New Zealand’s largest beer festival with 30 gourmet food exhibitors, cooking demonstrations and unique opportunities to experience beer and food matching.
The event is organised and hosted by Team Event, a privately funded and independent group of entrepreneurs committed to revitalising Christchurch’s festival scene in Christchurch, and which also launched the annual New World Wine & Food Festival.
Team Event is well known for its strong music line-ups and this year’s beer fest sees the legendary Supergroove take the stage along with local favourites AHoriBuzz and Soulsystem, and Batucada Sound Machine.
Director Callam Mitchell says the big set up begins on Tuesday. “We’ve got 30,000 litres of beer being delivered and all up there will be 100 local, national and international brews for punters to sample.”
While VIP and Hoptimized tickets have sold out, General Admission tickets are still available for $34.50 through Dash tickets www.dashtickets.co.nz and include a souvenir tasting glass and access to all festival features and entertainment. Gate sales for $40 will be available on the day as long as tickets haven’t sold out.
