Chef’s Called To Rise To The Vegetarian Challenge

Chef’s Called To Rise To The Vegetarian Challenge

For immediate release

With the growing number of Vegetarians in New Zealand, the challenge is on for Chefs from all backgrounds to provide nutritious, well-balanced dishes for Vegetarians.

Vegetables.co.nz, the promotional arm of Horticulture New Zealand, and Bidvest, national food distributor, have teamed up to set the Challenge for Chefs in 2013: Show us your best Vegetarian Dish!

The Vegetarian Dish Challenge has kicked off for 2013 and is bigger and better than its extremely successful inaugural year, 2012, where over 200 entries were received. Catering for the whole market, there are three categories that Chefs can enter their dishes into: Breakfast/Brunch, Lunch and Dinner/Fine Dining. Entries are open nationwide, to all who wish to participate.

Chefs are encouraged to submit their recipes featuring fresh New Zealand grown vegetables which could represent any branch of vegetarianism; including lacto-vegetarian (including dairy), lacto-ovo vegetarian (including dairy and eggs) or vegan (totally plant based).

The competition hosts top class judges and has the backing of two major industry players, Vegetables.co.nz and Bidvest.

Last year’s winner, Jinu Abraham, executive chef at Heritage Auckland, said “I am truly honoured to receive this prize. It’s great to be rewarded for what I love to do every day. The vegan menu development at Heritage Auckland has been a journey and this win is a very exciting milestone on the way,” says Jinu Abraham executive chef Heritage Auckland.

There are fantastic prizes up for grabs, and every entry receives a $50 Bidvest Fresh Produce voucher. The winner of each category will scoop up a New Zealand Vegetarian Dish Challenge 2013 Winner’s Plate, an Air New Zealand Mystery Weekend Travel Voucher worth $1200 and and iPad mini.

The challenge is on, what are you waiting for?

The competition closes on 30th of April and entries should be submitted at www.vegetables.co.nz/competitions/vegetariandish2013

See www.vegetables.co.nz or www.bidvest.co.nz for more information and full entry criteria.
