Lunch date with the NZSO – FREE!

14 March 2013

Lunch date with the NZSO – FREE!

“If music be the food of lunch, play on!”

Tune out of work and tune into a relaxing set menu with the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra in NZSO Lunch Date.

Last year’s Lunch Dates were so successful that we decided to continue the tradition, this time serving you a musical feast from Italy.

In less than an hour your national orchestra offers you an orchestral antipasto featuring six palatable works by composers Verdi, Mendelssohn, Mascagni, Respighi, and the finale – Rossini’s famous William Tell Overture.

Stay for a musical snack, or indulge in the full banquet. You are welcome to bring your lunch, a date, a friend, or feast alone.

On Friday 19 April, toast your national orchestra with New Zealand conductor Hamish McKeich and begin your musical feast with Verdi’s La Forza del Destino Overture, popularised recently in the Stella Artois beer advertisements.

Enjoy your first course, or primo, of Mendelssohn’s ‘Italian’ Symphony No. 4 then delve into the main course, or secondo, of Mascagni’s ‘Intermezzo’ from his much loved opera Cavalleria Rusticana.

Enjoy a side dish, or contorno, of Respighi’s The Hen, the third movement from his suite The Birds, and dust off your lunch date with two flavoursome works by Rossini. For dessert, or dolce, indulge in Rossini’s The Barber of Seville Overture and ease your digestion of this musical feast with his entire William Tell Overture – the perfect digestivo. Buon appetito!

Unwind from a busy morning at the office and have a date with the NZSO. First in, first served!

Our community programmes offer New Zealanders the opportunity to engage with the NZSO and live orchestral music.
