Karmic Payout of $7 Million for Lotto Player

A young woman from Christchurch is a great believer in karma after winning $7 million with Lotto Powerball on the weekend.

The woman, who wishes to remain anonymous, bought her ticket on the spur of the moment last week, “as I was just feeling a little lucky and I thought, ‘I should buy a Lotto ticket’.”

Now she’s got 7 million reasons to be glad she followed through on her intuition.

“Last year was really rough for me and, with this win, I feel like some good luck and some good karma have now come my way,” said the winner.

Even with the universe on her side, the win still came as a massive surprise.

“When I checked the ticket and realised I’d won, I started crying and just laughing uncontrollably. I really didn’t know what to do,” said the winner.

Incredibly, her win may also give credence to the theory that sometimes you get on a run of good luck, as this is the second time this year that the woman’s wider family has won Lotto, after an uncle won $1 million with Lotto First Division a few months ago.

“I think everyone else in my family will be buying a Lotto ticket now – waiting for their turn!” laughed the woman.

“This amount of money is life changing. But I want to try and keep my feet on the ground as much as possible.

“I’ll help out my family with their mortgages, and look into buying a house for myself.

“But of course I want to have a big party to celebrate first!” she added.

This ticket also continues a run of luck for South Island Lotto players who have won four of the last five big Powerball wins, all in the last five months.

An Invercargill man won $20 million in December last year from a ticket that is now on public display at Windsor Stationery and Lotto.

Then a Hokitika family won $15.7 million in January from a ticket bought through Lotto’s online channel MyLotto.co.nz.

Followed by a Blenheim family’s win of $10.8 million in March, although it took them three weeks to claim their prize as they wanted to create a financial plan before they collected their winnings.

Last week, a ticket sold in Dannevirke won $14 million with Big Wednesday First Division and the winner of that ticket is yet to come forward to claim their prize. Winners have 12 months from the date of the draw to claim their prize.
