You won’t get fleeced at the Social Wool Fair

You won’t get fleeced at the Social Wool Fair!
On June 15, knitters, spinners, crochet fans, dyers and weavers are invited to sell their stash – and pick up a bargain or two - at the first Social Wool Fair.
The Fair is a spin-off of the very popular fabricabrac. Like fabricabrac, it’s a community event, with profits donated to Mary Potter and Te Omanga hospices. Anyone can apply to have a stall, as long as it’s yarn and fibre connected.
“This is a celebration of the Wellington knitting community,” says event sponsor, Nanette Cormack. “While there will be commercial indie yarn sellers there, it’s also a chance for obsessive yarnies to pull items out of their stash and sell them, or to donate them for sale on our hospice stall.
All items wool and fibre related are welcome, as are patterns, equipment, notions – anything to do with knitting, crochet, weaving and spinning, as long as it’s not finished items, says Nanette. “This isn’t a craft market, it’s a chance for people who love to make things from fibre to find equipment, tools, materials and ideas.”
Stallholders currently booked who are selling new yarn include Yarnz, Verandah Yarns, Anna Gratton, Joy of Yarn and Skeinz from Napier. Other stall holders include 2 Minute Needles, Sue B patchwork squares, Knitty Kits knitted plant kits and stitchmarkers, Denise Best fleeeces and sliver.
Plus there are the people who have cleared
out their stash, so there should be bargains to be
had.
Planned for the 2 - 4 afternoon session are a UFO
(unfinished object) dump and swap, a knit-in and knitting
and crochet clinics. Beginners can learn to knit and
crochet in the afternoon for a gold coin donation.
The Social Wool Fair will be held 9.30 – 1 on Saturday 15 June at St John’s Church conference centre. Donations of wool for the hospice stall can be dropped off at your local hospice shop or at Cuba street Knitworld.
