Call for questions for National Volunteer Conference

Volunteering New Zealand

2 July 2013

Call for questions for National Volunteer Conference

Today Volunteering New Zealand (VNZ) opens registrations for their biennial national conference taking place on 19-20 November 2013 at the Museum of New Zealand, Te Papa Tongarewa in Wellington.

The theme is Collaborative Kōrero – Partnership & Impact in Volunteering. The conference will be made up of a series of kōrero (conversations) led by VNZ along with its member organisations, stakeholders and friends to tackle the big questions in the areas of impact and partnership in volunteering.

Vanisa Dhiru, CEO of Volunteering New Zealand, says VNZ is calling for “for questions to start a kōrero, or conversation, on aspects of partnership and impact that are of interest to anyone”.

“Instead of a ‘call for abstracts’ we thought we would engage more on what people wanted to talk about and listen to – so we have asked for questions instead, to help shape the agenda for our two day hui (conference)."

“VNZ’s directive for our work over the past two years has come from a national call for what the community sector wants. Member organisations of VNZ have expressed their support as VNZ launched Best Practice Guidelines and Competencies for Managers of Volunteers and moved towards fulfilling the needs of the sector."

Submitted questions will be used to identify threads within the two themes and plan a variety of sessions for the two day event. Questions from individuals and organisations across the whole community – business, community or government, can help shape the agenda.

“As a nation we know we have the skills and knowledge to learn from our own people,” says Vanisa.

“The hui is a time to share and learn from one another through kōrero, listening and networking.”

Online registrations and more information about the Collaborative Kōrero can be found at www.collaborativekorero.org.nz. Questions are welcome until Friday 19 July 2013.
